2011 3-DAY ARCHIVE
In 2011, with the support of the City of Yarra, Dear Patti Smith presented a series of 3-Day contemporary art exhibitions and events to support emerging and developing contemporary artists. DPS sought to provide an alternative to conventional exhibition models and respond to contemporary movements in the arts towards 'live' and temporal artworks.
Underpinning this series was an interest in experimentation, risk and passion. Dear Patti Smith aimed to capitalize and reconsider the gathering strength of the opening or 'happening' and provide a platform for practice development, exploration and exposure.
Over 100 artists and curators were involved in the series, and an additional 68 community members participated in workshops and artist talks and we received over 1500 visitors over the course of the 30days the series was open to the public.
The DPS collective were increasingly interested in developing artists that were reconsidering contemporary modes of exhibition through rigorous engagement with our 3-day format and/ or space.
This series of projects included exhibition, workshops, live performances, artist collaborations, work made in situ, ephemeral outcomes, artist talks and critical discussions.
Photographic documentation, stop-motion video and live video feed were used to extend the experience and exposure of the 3-days via a continued online presence.
This is the archive from the series:
